It was by pure accident Avaerilonia Superior was discovered. Astronomers in Avaerilon, a long way away, discovered a meteor made-up of a metal that various space-probes could not identify. Therefore, a manned vessel was sent into space to try and bring a sample back. The meteor was faster than even the Starshout fighter-ship, Avaerilon's experimental space-defence craft. However, on its orbit, it led the crew to discover a planet that looked like it could support intelligent life: Avaerilonia Superior.
Colonel Huw Griffiths named the planet after his crew's homeland, adding superior to it when he observed a smaller, similar moon-like world orbiting it. This moon is Avaerilonia Mabinogia (named after the legendary Welsh collection of tales; and "mab" is Welsh for "son.")
A long survey indicated that the atmosphere was close to, if not exactly like the atmosphere found on the world that they came from. Water was abundant and there was sentient life like on Earth; although no equivalent to humans existed. The crew took it upon themselves to establish the first base on this new planet and since then, the planet has become a home-from-home for Avaerilonians.
